Yellow Ribbon Run is an outstanding project, which gives a second chance to people with criminal past.
Yellow Ribbon Run helps break down prejudice and popularizes through running the topic of employment of former prisoners.
In 2016, the Yellow Ribbon Run took place in Czech Republic for the first time. The idea of Yellow Ribbon Run was brought to Czech Republic by Gabriela Slovakova, director of the Svetla nad Sazavou Womens Prison. In order to realize this idea which comes originally from Singapore few organizations connected and founded the platform for the YELLOW RIBBON RUN which includes: Prison Service, Business Leaders Forum, RunCzech, Probation and Mediation Service and RUBIKON Center.
The Yellow ribbon on runner’s dresses serves as a symbol of the return of former prisoners into society. It is a symbol of hope that is based on Tony Orlando’s song „Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree“ .
RUN AWAY FROM PREJUDICE!
Motto of the Yellow Ribbon Run is „RUN AWAY FROM PREJUDICE“. The prejudice is wat harms redundants the most. People who are leaving prison in Czech republic still have difficulties to find the job. Half of Czech companies when hiring ask for criminal record. In 2016 there were over 10.000 people released from prison. For an ex-offender getting a stable job is prerequisite to live a full-fledged, non criminal life. The chance og getting a legal job still has only half of them.
The idea of Yellow Ribbon Run is clear: let’s show we can give to ex-offenders chance, because without a stable job thay can’t get back and live a full-fledged life. We believe that every person deserves a second chance if he wants to.
OUR ACHIEVEMENTS
There will be 7 th Yellow Ribbon Run in 2022. In 2021 more than 650 runners a 50 organisations got involved. Yellow Ribbon Run is also supported by its ambassador ,czech actor Petr Čtvrtníček and children Yellow Ribbon Run is supported by Czech TV moderator Barbora Černošková.
